Doppelporositäts-Modell
The double continuum model approach is well suited for the simulation of regional flow and transport processes in fractured aquifers and karst aquifers. The model that we developed is based on the two softwares MODFLOW and MT3D.

Features
  • two overlapping continua:
    • the conduit system
    • the fissured system
  • different aquifer parameter for both continua
  • changing fracture-matrix interactions

The Flow Model

  • solving of two coupled differential equations
  • linear exchange term; the exchange rate is a function of specific exchange coefficient and head gradient

Differential Equations

  • three-dimensional model
  • free water surface in both continua
  • simulation of transient flow processes

The Transport Model
  • solving of two coupled differential equations
  • consideration of advective transport between fractured medium and matrix
  • consideration of sublocal fracture-matrix interaction
  • intrusion processes into the matrix system were realized with
  • the continua were divided into subsystems with dynamic volumes
